What Are Mount Meru Huts?

Mount Meru huts are basic accommodations located along the hiking trail of Mount Meru. They provide shelter and essential amenities for climbers, including:

  • Bunk beds for resting after a long day of trekking.

  • Communal dining areas for meals and socializing.

  • Bathroom facilities for basic hygiene.

  • Outdoor seating areas to enjoy the breathtaking views.

These huts are clean, well-maintained, and designed to support climbers as they ascend the mountain.


The two main huts on Mount Meru are:

 
  1. Miriakamba Hut

    • Located at an altitude of approximately 2,514 meters (8,248 feet).
    • Serves as the first overnight stop for most climbers.
    • Features dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds, a communal dining area, and outdoor seating where you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days.
  2. Saddle Hut

    • Situated at an elevation of about 3,570 meters (11,712 feet).
    • Acts as the base camp for the final push to the summit.
    • Offers similar amenities to Miriakamba Hut, including bunk beds and shared dining spaces.
 

Both huts are designed to accommodate groups of up to eight people per room, fostering a sense of community among fellow climbers.

Do You Need Reservations for Mount Meru Huts?

Yes, reservations are mandatory for staying at Mount Meru Huts. Due to limited availability and high demand, especially during peak climbing seasons (June–October and December–February), it is crucial to book well in advance through authorized tour operators or directly with TANAPA. This ensures that you secure a spot and avoid disappointment.
